the gpz550 has a different shift lever setup with linkages so you can get the feeling like you are on a crotch rocket. ;)

I guess you flipped the footpegs to the other side, I was considering something of the kind.
Does the stop in there have to be cut and welded?

I really have to check back more often - with snow on the ground, I'm not really thinking on two wheels as much. :P

To answer your question donthaveakawman, I flipped the brackets upside-down on the same side (then flipped the footpegs in the brackets upside-down). Switching sides would mean the footpeg would be above the rearmost of the two mounting holes, whereas I have it behind (same way guitargeek has his in the pics he posted).

Ideally, the stop can be moved to the other side, but I'm reluctant to start chopping away at least until I'm sure of what I want. The shape of the peg behind the pivot prevents the peg from folding downward (take a look and you'll see what I mean), and the stop is just an extra safeguard. So currently the stop is preventing the pegs from folding up - so they're just fixed footpegs at the moment, which I'm fine with for now.

For the shifter side, I took a stock shifter, flipped it backward, and then a couple inches from the shaft, I bent the arm straight outwards to form the new pedal, and cut off the excess. So effectively it's a fairly short lever, backwards. Maybe it's the lazy way, but I like the simplicity of it - maybe since I had a couple years off, I can retrain my left foot. ;)

Whew, finally getting around to posting some pics. Might be a help to others searching around.

So the brake pedal from the EN450 worked out just about perfect (the pedal is a bit closer to the bike than stock, but not hard to use).

And the shift lever is a stock one, flipped upside down, bent, cut off, and ground down a bit to fit the rubber.

Hopefully I can get on the road to test it all soon!

I used a shifter from a Kawi Concours. It works so slick, easy to do and looks non ghetto! The shortened brake lever, a little ghetto. Pics in build thread in sig.

Interesting, I might try that if the shortened lever is too much effort or if the reverse shift pattern is annoying. Good to know that one works; unfortunately I don't have a ton of parts just lying around to mock up or ability/tools to modify things significantly, so knowing something works "out of the box" is handy!

what about fashioning the rear footpegs forward, maybe on the aluminum mount that holds them on?

I thought about using those mounts, but it seemed the brake pedal would probably interfere with the exhaust. The flipped brackets put the pegs in just about a perfect position.

If you are still using the stock front forks, drop them in the clamps about an inch.It makes a WORLD of difference!!!

Unfortunately the handlebars are in the way of dropping the forks in the clamps, but what I did do was remove the spacers in the forks, which dropped them a good 2-3 inches. I put in thicker oil so it doesn't bottom out with the reduced travel (I'll be experimenting with levels and air pressure once I can test it). I'll make some shorter spacers if the fender touches the exhaust under load or if it's too low. Visually and as far as riding position though, it seems good.
