I am working on bobbing out a 1980 KZ750 Twin... as you guys probably know, the 1980 KZ750 came stock with a 7 spoke (fixed) wheel, rather than the standard wire spoke wheels. I prefer the wire spoke look and I am wondering what other KZ wheels might be compatible with me 1980 KZ750? If other wheels would fit my bike... what year and what model bike do I need to get them off of. I would prefer some fatter tires, especially on the back if possible. Please help! Thanks!

Even if someone might point me in the right direction where I could find this info, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I have the original wheels off my 1982 KZ650 CSR, that I want to sell. Both front and rear are 48 spoke. The front is 19" x 1.87" wide, with single disc brake. Rear is 16" x 3.0" wide, with drum brake. Don't know whether this is anything like you are looking for, and I have not checked compatibility, but if you have any interest, then let me know. Am including a photo for reference.

Martin & WABBMW... Thanks!

Martin: Yeah, the wheels on my bike both have disc brakes on them. I am pretty sure this KZ750 is a LTD, but not 100% on that. I'll try looking online for larger model KZ... that might do the trick. When looking online, what numbers should I use to compare... barring size, axel size.. or something else?

WABBMW: I might be interested in the front wheel, if it fits... but as I stated above, my 750 has disc brakes front and back... and it looks like your rear wheel is a drum... they both look way nice though.

how wide is a rear rim on the 1000?

martin_csr wrote: The bike in the photo is a 750-4, not a Twin.

The best match will probably be the 1000CSR mentioned above, but I don't know if the disks will line up etc. The 650CSR Fr wheel is a single disk, but it will accept a second disk - I think it's basically the same as the 1000CSR. I would search the KZ gallery for any 750-4s w wire spoked wheels to see what others have done (they all came stock w cast alloy mag wheels, so any w spokes have had the wheels swapped).

It's a 4 cylinder huh... well cool, thanks for that. Is my KZ green-horn showing? :) I took your advice and looked through ALL of the 750-4 pics on here and I only fond one that had spokes: www.kzrider.com/gallery/kz-750-fours/bone-daddy-2510

But is was a 650 frame and a 750 motor... so sort of not the best example... how weird is it that NO ONE on here has a 750-4 with spoke wheels. You'd think that there would be at least one... oh well, I guess I'll be the first, if I can get it to work...

I did find some 750 twins that had the wire spoke tires... but they were all pre 1980's ...so did they switch to the mag wheels in the '80s?

Martin... thank you so much, you have been way helpful, I am so excited to keep moving on this build! I think after all we have talked about, I will stick with the wheels I have, I would rather have the wire spoke wheels but I realy don't want to have to go to a drum brake in the rear wheel and it seems as though there is not a suitable or all that compatible wheel swap for this year/model... without having to fab special parts, it seems a safer bet to stick with the stock wheels. Too bad about that, the wire spokes would have been nice... but that is not to say that the mag wheels are bad, I like them too. Thank YOU again for all your help!

Wow dude, that bike is CLEAN, well done! We may differ in style, but we both have good taste in bikes! The look of your bike is so close to what mine looked like when it was new (and assembled) as that pic I showed you was after the initial tear down and prep for mods to the frame.

My 750 is a 1980 as previously stated, would those mag wheels from my bike be tubeless as well? ...and to answer your question, no, I haven't tried to change a tube out on a bike by hand, but I watched someone try it once and I learned pretty quick that it is a really HARD job and darn near impossible.
