1977 KZ1000-A1 early frame? was created by sc/ant864
I was looking to find what year my motor was in the engine VIN thread and after finding out it's a 1976 KZ900-B-LTD, martin_csr pointed me to a site that I used to find what frame I have. The VIN is KZT00A-005972 and I was wondering if this is a low enough in the in the build run to warrant restoration rather than modding? Since I knew it wasn't a matching set I planned to do quite a bit of mods including cutting off a lot of the factory tabs and rear peg mounts along with gusset work. I just don't want to ruin a frame that would be worth trying to find a matching engine to.

Kawasaki never matched frame and engine VIN numbers - as long as they're within 300 of each other.

If it was all original it may be worth restoring but since it isn't... get the idea? If you restore a '77 it's for what you like since like the rest of us if you decide to sell it you'll never get anywhere close to your investment back. '73-'75 equals a whole different story.

That's the beauty of owning a 77-78. They are still a bit unique and have the old school charm of the Z1 but they aren't super collectible white elephants. So, you can go ahead and restomod without worrying about ruining some historical artifact or inadvertantly destroying a possible retirement nest egg.
That being said, I still hate seeing one get hacked up beyond recognition. Go find a Honda to do that kind of stuff to

LOL  It will still be all KZ as far as frame and engine just want to modernize it, my thing was cutting all the extra tabs off that I wont use but I plan on keeping all this stuff in a box "just in case". Don't worry I don't plan on changing it to a rigid or anything like that. The main thing I want to remove is the rear peg mounts, since they wont work with rearsets...or at least don't look right.
