1976 KZ750 Kick Stand Spring
01 Jun 2006 11:41
I was putting the stand down and the spring popped off. Now the kick stand is always down. It looks like it is a simple task to get the spring back on. But after many atempts I have failed. Any suggestions??
Thank You

You bet! Start with a handfull of pennies and stick them one by one between the coils until the spring is long enough to put on the pegs. Then put the kickstand down and the pennies should fall out.

Thats a pretty tricky idea! I've got a second method: Unbolt the kickstand from the bike, then attach the spring, and muscle the kickstand back into place and rebolt it. Worked for me.

i use a flat bladed screw driver under the tab on the stand. put the spring on the screw driver and pry down CAREFULLY.the spring slides off the screw driver onto the tab

Pennys worked but the spring would not hold the stand up and kind of just hung there until the spring fell off again. I think the spring might be bent?? I do not have a center stand on the bike so this is getting frustrating. Thank you for the suggestions!!

This just doesn't seem possible to me. Can you post pictures of it re-connected and of it hanging loose? Maybe we can see what's amiss...Pennys worked but the spring would not hold the stand up and kind of just hung there until the spring fell off again. I think the spring might be bent?? This picture shows it just hanging there. If you try and put it all the way up the spring just falls off. I hope this shows it well enough for you to help. Thank You

In that case, I would say that you need a new spring.

It's weird how the top of it is not rusty, and that part also looks a bit contorted.
Also, maybe it's just the wrong spring for the bike?
