did you remove the plastic sleeve/retainer?

I am mostly concerned with getting at the rod. I did not remove the rubber shroud at the plunger. I assume there is a circlip behind this. I was having difficulty pulling this off and wanted to preserve shroud if possible.

The piston is held inside the bore with a circlip. And the circlip must be removed before the piston will come out. The circlip is typically encrusted in position and difficult to remove, and usually destroyed during removal. Long tipped circlip pliers are needed to reach way down in there to grab onto the circlip. Kawasaki made a special tool (circlip pliers) to remove and replace the circlip.

The replacement pistons for this model all come with the secondary cup (middle cup) already in place on the piston (as shown in the parts diagram on kawasaki.com), at least those I've seen.
Am therefore unsure whether you have the correct kit.
Z1E has the correct kit.

Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.
Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

After removing the lever and rubber boot, it is clear that my MC qualifies as the encrusted version. It has been soaking in PB blaster for a couple days. Wondering how I can get this thing out. One of the circlip ears is cemented over with rust?

Could try digging it out with an ice pick.

Would wear eye protection and be careful not to damage the groove where the circlip fits.

Exactly Right! A 1.69 for an ice pick at Walmart and the circlip came right out. Thanks for the idea. Im always looking for cheap alternatives.
