Stock cast wheels widened...

I'm looking for a company that widens cast aluminum wheels. Specifically a set of 18" 7 spoke Kawi mags, Klasmo use to list widened wheels but they are no longer in business as far as I have found. Anyone know where I could have this done ?

I know the cost involved is going to be rather high, but I just cant bring myself to use 3 spoke 17's off a modern bike. And Morris magnesium race rims can be found, but after years of abuse I'm scared of cracking/failure....not to mention the lack of a cush drive.

Pic of the Klasmo widened KZ1300 front, mmmmmmmm :woohoo:

Yep, he replied to my other post already. Suggested Kosman as a source to have this done. I love KZR, this place rocks.

I agree about the 17's. They only seem to look right if you lower the bike, and that minimizes any cornering gains.

Post what you find out about widening the 18"s. Like mentioned in the previous post, Kosman is a good bet. They used to charge $250/wheel many years ago IIRC, probably a bit more now, but still could be cheaper than fitting different wheels and all the other associated costs that are involved

Well I just bought an 18" Z1R front wheel from another KZR member....Guess I'll be listing a few of my KZ parts to help fund the WIDENING project LOL. Looks like I'll be needing the better part of $1000 by the time its all said done, but hey at least it will be unique.

Anyone want a set of ZX9 wheels....????

Why did you not just start out with a wider KZ1300 18" front wheel. plus it has the 7 bolt hub so you can use the KZ1000 ST larger rotors. Or you can use the much larger rotors right off of the 1300. Or use the KZ1000P front wheel that is the same with as the rear rim on that bike.

Good question, and one I have no real good answer to. I was looking at mjg15's 550 project after I bought the Z1R rim and noticed his use of the KZ13 with the 300mm rotors. And realised my too quick to jump blunder.

Heres the plan, I want to run a 120/70ZR18 front. Minimum rim width is listed as being 3.50 so I'd need to widen a stock 1000P or KZ1300 anyway.....at least thats what I'm telling myself so I dont feel so stupid for not going the P or KZ13 route. Although theres little difference in running a 110/80ZR18 on the recomended 2.50 wide stock P or KZ13 rim....DOH, I've seen my costly error.

The stock front tire on the 1300 is a 110, so a 120 would be no problem. I have four of the 1300 rims if you are interested.

Planned rubber for the project = Avon Storm 2's. Front 120/70ZR18 front, 160/60ZR18 rear. Modern looks in a better wearing alternative to all out performance offerings and available in the desired 18" sizing.

Anyone have other options I might look at ?
