Stock cast wheels widened...

He had a jid 20 years ago, that came from Puppet.

I had a rim I sold at an IDBA drag race at Norwalk, OH.
Rear 18" rim stock black mag. Sold it for $150 in 1992.
Puppet used a D.I.D. rim and a stock rim. 4 1/4 inside

A couple other (random) points worth mentioning about 18's:

-KZ1300 wheel is tubeless rated, I don't believe that the Z1R wheel is. The widening process may address this though. NOT trying to restart the tubeless vs. tube debate/war here....just sayin

- I used police model triple clamps with the 1300 wheel, the 1300 and "police" front ends have wider spacing than other bikes, but they are similar to each other.

- Other non-7 spoke 18" possibilities are ZR550 rear (18x3.5"), Concours front (18x3.0). I have these and plan to use them on something else. They are both 5 spoke and kinda similar to each other. If they were painted black it would be hard to tell that they dont match exactly. It is easy to obtain larger, floating rotors for the front wheel.

- Early GSXR wheels are 18" and wider, especially the '88 1100 wheels. They are 3.5 Fr and 4.5 Rr, 3 spoke design.

I'm going for a Lawson AMA Superbike KZ1000S look wheel wise. Morris mags, without the concers of real magnesium wheels and the lack of a cush drive. Forks are ZX636 USD's and the 18" wheel will give me some hight back compared to a 17"er. Widening the front wheel is to take up some space as I dont want it to look like a wide glide Harley with my stock 750L skinny 1.85x19 rim with a 100/90-19 tire.

I could run a 17 on the front too as I have one here, but then I'm spending money on gull wing tripples so no cost savings there. I dislike the dropped nose look of most modern front end swaps, not to mention the bashed in header pipes.

Swingarm is a ZRX1100, and anything smaller than a 4.5 is going to look pretty tiny in there. Again I have a 17x5.5 already but it just dont do anything for me.... I could buy a used ZRX for less than all this moddifying is going to cost me and the ZRX is still going to stomp my 750.


Apparently my wife is right....I have a need to complicate things more than they need to be. A ZRX11/12 would be cheaper and a better performer, but anyone can buy one LOL.

The stock tire on this stock 18" 1300 rim is pretty substantial.
