I was wondering if somebody could give me some pictures of there uni-shock set up. where they had to weld. How the swingarm is bolted up.. all that sort of stuff. It would be greatly appreciated. I have an 81' KZ1000 so im looking for pictures of where they did this on a KZ1000. It can be older too. I just need the gist of things.

Thanks guys,

Flip throught the projects forum. Lots of guys have done a monoshock conversion, many more than I know about. Off the top of my head there is testarossa's, irishwills, OMR's and mine. There is alot of great info in everyones threads, and I'm sure lots of guys will be by to link to their build threads ;)

Funny...no doubt but that's exactly how they used to do PW80 Yamahas for flat tracking ;)

Here's a link with some pictures that will give you the general idea kid... I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see you make out pretty well with doing it.

Just so you know, there are arms that don't require frame widening. This particular one did.

What, you didn't read all 48 pages? Well this page has some decent pictures of the mounts that I had to weld to my frame: kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...mit=20&limitstart=80 My swinger is from a 1995 GSXR 750. It actually fit without widening the frame. I actually made bushings to take up some space. The swingarm pivot was 0.100" less than the opening in the frame. Let me know if you need additional info, I have tons of pictures. Most are in my thread, but I understand it could be tedious to search it all just to find specific info.

Just my .02 here. Consider this project carefully, I have had to modify a lot of stuff to get mine to work. It's a domino effect once you try and stuff that shock in there. It takes the place of the battery box, my passenger footpeg mounts needed to be removed, I had to re-spring the shock, and lots of welding. Not saying don't do it, just keep in mind that its a lot of work. You'll be down for a while.

Once you have done the monoshock swap, what have you done with your batteries? Is there a small enough battery that has the A-hr and CCAs that are required? How about mounting? I just got the the mono shock welded up in mine but a few ideas would be great.

Bdog, have a look at my build thread here: kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...it=20&limitstart=480

What I did was go to an AGM battery. That allows you to lay it down. As you'll see in my thread, I built a battery box to suit the layed down battery, but my shock has a remote mounted nitrogen reservoir. If yours has the nitrogen reservoir attached to the shock, then my solution may not work.

This particular aspect of the buildup caused me considerable concern at the time. I did a lot of measuring before I came up with that battery box. I built it so that all the factory electric stuff mounts in close to the original locations.

I have tons more pictures if you need 'em.

But then I won't have any reason not to ride, and nothing to work on that isn't a weekend bolt-on thing!! I enjoy the fabrication and uniqueness of the older bike with a twist.

Oh, and I went to the most recent "Street Nite" at the local Dragstrip (Richmond Dragway) and I really don't want to be mistaken for any one of those guys.
