wheel swap was created by uglee
Hello kz nation. I recently bought a 1976 kz 400 and want to make a little bobber out of it. Looked for the white wall in the factory size and can't get them. Will cost around 350 bucks to have the hubs laced to HD loops and i'm not trying to go that route. Is there any way to run a 21/16 combo on my bike other than that??Tried to search the forums first but the task overwhelmed me...HELP me get some type of vision going on my project.

Why not a 19/16 combo with the smallest 19 tire you can find? 19s were standard on older 900s/1000s.

For the cheapest white wall tires just keep the tires you have and paint them with some cheap white wall paint from Sears. Get it?? White wall paint? Oh, I crack me up. :silly:

You can save the $100 by lacing/truing yourself. It's really easy and there's loads of info/people on the web to help. If you start with good quality rims the build will be much easier to true. For instance, I built wheels for my Z1 using crappy hoops. They took me forever to true, well over an hour per wheel. But when I do MX wheels I use Excel hoops and it only takes me about 15 minutes to true each wheel.

The cost of spokes is about what you'd pay for stock spokes, nothing special. Actually cheaper than most spoke sets so you're doing good on that.

Your wheels will look brand new when done. So even trying to find a real nice complete wheel you'll be spending more than what the spokes and hoops cost.

You can use any 40 spoke rim. The issue is the the spoke length and the proper bends on the spoke ends. For that you'll need a company like Buchannons to make them up for you.

If you go with an assembled wheel just make sure the axle diameter is the same, then you just have to mess with spacers for the most part. You'll most likely be fabbing something for rear brakes.
