As black engine paint is gone, perhaps the engine was built up from complete tear-down.
Would have a been a good opportunity to weld crank.

Might also have heavy duty valve springs, and possibly heavy duty clutch springs.

Perhaps an oil gate added to pan.

Good Fortune! :)

Has Dyna coils.

Might also have Dyna-S electronic ignition. Or earlier Dyna ignition. Or possibly some other brand electronic ignition.

Oem ignition was points.

Kawasaki went from points to factory electronic ignition on 1979 KZ1000.

Good Fortune! :)

And back then, lots of owners were replacing the air box with pods.

A thicker and more substantial right front motor mount was also a popular aftermarket accessory.

And look for slotted cam chain sprockets (maybe diy slots), necessary to degreeing cam timing.

Good Fortune! :)

I appreciate your input! Considering that it has some of the hop-ups i'm trying to decide whether to use pod filters or to try finding a stock intake setup. Also, when it comes to a battery i assume that a YB10A-A (12V 10 Ah)would suffice. Would there be any problem with using a 12V 12Ah battery?

I just went ahead with the stock 12v 10Ah battery and I am almost ready to attempt to fire this beast up!! I am just waiting on two front chain cover bolts and an Oil Filter assembly.
