porchev914 wrote: That's precisely it! A fender by definition is only a wheel cover to prevent spraying water/debris at the rider, so whether steel or plastic would serve the same purpose. So why add the brace to the plastic fender from the factory if it serves no purpose in the true function of the fender? Except as a structural brace perhaps? By contrast, the gsxr fender I have is strictly plastic, no metal, no brace.

Uh,I said the plastic fender offers no support.
No where did I mention a steel fender not providing support.
Take the steel front fender off a kz and ride it around some decent curves in the road and tell me how the front end feels, hell ride it down a straight road with some bumps in it and lock up the brakes and tell me how solid that front end feels without a steel front fender on it! :woohoo:

Fork brace and steering dampner serve 2 totally different purposes in what theyre designed to do,talk about apples and oranges! :woohoo:

otakar wrote: You said it yourself. The air leaks out. The air stiffens the fork dampening. Just like the oil will. The oil's only purpose is NOT just for dampening the rebound. If that is your impression than that is faulty thinking.

If you manage to cause some massive shift in the frontend of your bike that allows it to twist a steel axle shaft and a steel fender you've got bigger problems to deal with, like maybe you forgot to install the fork springs in the front end! :woohoo:
I road over a 2" across tree branch in the road years ago that blew out of a truck in front of me at 60mph and managed to keep the bike up while blowing 2 fork seals out, managed to ride home after checking everything over. B)

That lower triple tree on the 21 bike is tying the fork tubes together,it has nothing to do with the lower legs where a fork brace is attached to. :woohoo:
