Police wheel on KZ650?
05 Apr 2010 09:04
Does anyone know if the KZ1000 Police wheel is a bolt on-replacement for the KZ650? I know that Mark Wing has run a police wheel, but I am pretty sure that was with a different front end.
If no one knows for sure, can someone at least tell me what the measurements are? I would like to know if I would need to mill down both sides to bolt on my rotors or stand-off my calipers.
Thanks.

The police forks are wider than the 650's. It;s easier to put a Z1R front wheel on if your looking for an 18 in, front.

Looking for an 18" tubeless front - I don't think the Z1R fits the bill does it?

No your right, the Z1R wheel appears to be tube type.

I have a 18" police front wheel if you are interested. With the 1300 wheel there is a problem with the discs.

Cool - it's nice to know there are a few available. The logistics of delivery will be the fun part, being in Canada and all, but I can figure something out.
So, does this mean that I will need the wheel WITH the brake rotors, and I will have to make brackets for my calipers to mount this sucker? Or can I somehow attach my own rotors? The information I get from forum searching is inconclusive

There is no way to attach your four bolt brake rotors.

This is an interesting thread for me, since my stepbrother gave me an '87 1000P, and I'd like to swap wheels between it and my cafe bike (which started out as an LTD750, but now has an '82 GPz750 fork and triple clamp).
Anybody foresee any problems with this? Front wheel bearings are the same between the two models, but I'll have to swap out the rear bearings.
Are the brake rotors the same diameter?

The rotors on the 1000p appear to be bigger (diameter) based on a google image search. It could just be the smaller wheel make them look bigger, but I don't think so. This is another good reason to put the police front wheel on.
The only thing I am wondering about is width - how much wider is the police wheel (I know the rim is 2.15, but I mean the rotors.) I would consider putting on the whole police front end, but I have already installed racetech emulators in my own front end and don't really feel like throwing that away.

I think I got this one off track - lemme try to bring it back...
I can't use 650 rotors on a 1000P wheel... check
I want to keep my 650 front end since the racetech emulators and tarozzi fork brace represent about 300 bones I have spent on suspension... check
A 1000P wheel is the only way to get ye olde 7-spoke mag wheel in a tubeless 18-inch variety... check
I am still out of my freakin' mind... check
soooo, can someone tell me the rotor-to-rotor measurements on the 1000P wheel? That will tell me whether or not I can squeeze one onto my KZ650 front end.
Thanks a bunch.
