Not sure what this side cover is called. I was riding today and noticed it wasn't there any more :woohoo: ! Not sure if it fell off or what. I'm guessing it was loose and it fell off while riding. Doesn't appear to be the stator cover, or the generator cover...so I think it's called the engine inspection cover? Any how, this seems hard to find even on ebay for the time being. Thinking maybe find a junky looking part and match the paint. Is there a place where you can buy oem paint? Bah, this is upsetting but crap like this happens I guess. I must of loosened it and forgot to tighten it. Any how, let me know where I can find this part for cheap if possible. Thanks.

Edit: It's the points cover.

I'm pretty sure those are the same as on the kz650 (share most of the bottom end in common) and the pic looks like like it is.

I should have an extra one in my garage, probably not in perfect shape, might have a little rash on it (been awhile since I looked for/at it). Let me run out and peek for it and I'll post up if/when I find it. If I have one it's yours for the cost of shipping. Merry Xmas!

Hey thanks I appreciate that if you happen to find it. There appear to be some cheap options on ebay. I was limiting my search to kz750 covers as well. I think my only issue would be finding the paint to match the gold paint of the spectre.

No mine was the I guess you would call it 'gold' color found on the 82-83 kz750 spectre. I'm afraid I might have to wait for a spectre cover though to come up on ebay since I think it will be hard to color match the engine paint.

It might be a good idea to remove the timing advancer and clean & lubricate it, since it might have collected some road grit n stuff. I wouldn't ride the bike until a replacement pulsing coil cover is installed. Get one from a 750-4 asap - worry about getting a Spectre cover later.

PS: it's doubtful that yer gonna be able to color match one.

When you get the replacement cover and bolts, use some Blue Loctite #242 to keep the bolts tight. Do not use any Red Loctite as it needs about 350 F heat to loosen up(more than the pulsing coils can stand).

The Blue Loctite is removable with tools, but won't vibrate loose.

Yah, I have beaten myself up for this the whole day. This was my blunder. I think I left the bolts loose on the cover. I'm just going to find a real cheap one so that I can cover it, then just keep looking for a worthy replacement part. Looks like the kz440 covers even work.

No thanks asshole. Yes, people make mistakes. I'd rather not dwell on it though! You are not playing devil's advocate, you are just being a complete ass.

The ones from an electronic ignition 550 should also fit.

From what I remember, yes, the ones from a 650 will fit on as far as mating with the engine, but if I recall, the covers from a bike with points may not stand out as far as the ones from a bike with electronic ignition. This means there's a chance the electronic-ignition may come into contact with the low-profile points covers. Make sure you get one from any KZ500/550/650/750-4 with electronic ignition.
