I second PLUMMEN...you are stuck with tubes if you have stock rims...unless you upgrade to newer generation suspension/wheels...and that will be much more expensive than a tube.

You can put an inertube in a tubeless tire. I do it on my 76 KZ900 all the time. When you install a new tube, make sure you install a new rubber rim strip also. Also use plenty of talcum powder during installation. Talc will insure the tube inflating straight and will prevent pinching.

I have been using tubeless tires on tubed rims with tubes for years and never had a problem. I do not even use the rim locks, I just put a thin metal patch over the hole inside the rim.

Most tires in our sizes will be marked, tube/tubeless. Even if they aren't, you're usually okay. Just be sure to replace your tubes with your tires as a set - the rubber inner tubes ages too and will likely crap out before the new tire is worn out.

like otto said one of the first things i do when i change tires on a stock bike of my own is toss the rim locks kawi i think was a bit optimistic on how much power these actually make and you can use a tube in a tubeless tire.

All great scoop. Is there a protective band for stock mag wheels or something similar? Were about to go postal on this shop. My buddy just replaced his tires with Bridgestone Exedra tubeless tires on his 78 KZ 650 and it keeps going flat with a tube in it. Is the shop doing the work screwing the pooch? Are we missing something to suggest to do for a proper installation even though they should know how to put on a freakin tire?

Do ya REALLY need a toob? Mine (80 LTD 1000) didn't have tubes and they put them in mine when I replaced my tires. I'm the only one out of three cats that has not had a flat with my new tires.

The KZ 650 is going back to the shop again with a front flat after being repaired just yesterday (two tube flats in a week) and we're on the verge of pulling a Chris Farley in their shop. Just want it setup right. Thanks for lettin me vent! Please pelt me with your commentary.

Peace

First of all, Are talking spoked wheels or mag wheels? Second of all IF they are mag wheels, did they come with rim locks? A tubeless Mag rim is marked on the side as "Tubeless" OBVIOUSLY, you can NOT run a spoked rim without a tube, and that is all that's to that. There are two differences between a tubed solid wheel and a tubeless solid wheel. 1)tubeless rims do not have the two holes for the rim locks. 2)there is a small ridge on the inside base of the rim to prevent the tire from coming off the rim if it gos flat. You can run any solid wheel with a tubeless tire if; you seal the holes for the rim locks, but you may risk the tire coming off the rim if it ever gos flat while you are riding. You can conversely run a inner tube in any wheel, provided that the valve stem opening is properly sealed to the valve stem. If you DO run a tube, make sure that the inside of the rim is very clean so that any corrosion will not rub threw the tube.
