ZX12 swing arm on a 76 A4 was created by flatblackA4
Hey guys
Just wondering if the if a ZX12 swing arm will fit in my A4, is it worth the hassle or a total pain in the ass? I think a 180 tire would look way too cool on this bike. I'm a machinist by trade so I can mod a lot of thing if needed. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if they're a direct swap, but I'm sure that would look cool ;)

I you need to fab, oh well. I think it would be worth it.

Cheers!

i've never measured them myself but i was told they are roughly about an inch bigger across than the stock swingarm pivot.

"is it worth the hassle or a total pain in the ass"...

As one of our members just recently finished his ZX7 conversion that was wider where he had to split the frame, press it out wards slightly then put it all back together with reinforcement welds & gussets/plates and such.

Now with that in mind, still had to have some milling accomplished on his rear hub for chain alignments...

Then of course the upper and lower shock mounts.

Oh yeah, then you have to figure out all your electronic l0ocations & changes & modifications for the upper shock mount is now in the way...

Oh crap, the battery cage needs fabbing....

On & on the SAGA & PITA goes...

Now to answer your question....
PITA, yup you bet...
Frustrating at times, yup...
Oh Shit factor or I didn't think of that factor, yup....

Worth the hassle, yup, every damn bit of it... ;)

OK sounds like a total pita, if it is an inch wider at the pivot tube its not worth the hassle. I'd rather turn spacers than mill the pivot tube. It looks like I just may use an early gsxr 600 arm. I still want to keep the twin shocks as well. For some reason that look still appeals to me. Any other suggestions or $.02 are appreciated. Just want a bigger meat on the back.
Thanks for the replies guys.

all the gixxer arms seem to be easier/popular to swap, plus they look good with the dual shock mounts welded on(z1e sells the alum brackets to be welded on).i love the 190 on the back of my bike(the bike in my avatar).keep us posted,

I did a ZRX12 to mine. if u are a machinist , then this will be a cake walk.B)
here is a link to my project.i would try to use a 1/2" offset sprocket , rather than the 5/8" i used.

I see u are off to a good start.B)
i cant wait to here if u have any difficulty aligning the rim, and sprockets.this is where the fun begins.
U will likely need as much offset as possible on the front sprocket, to help getting things aligned at the rear. i have a 5/8 offset on mine, and still had to mill the rear hub.
many get away with a 1/2". in your case, with the 200 tire (:woohoo: ), the more the marry er.
