TOPIC:

I have a 1985 ZX1000 Police bike. I need to know the specs for the forks.

What size are they at the spot of the headlight brackets, with the brackets removed?
Also how far apart are the forks center to center?

I'm looking to buy or make a fork brace to mount a custom head light to.


PS. can I get the dust covers for a regular KZ1000 forks and swap out the huge police dust covers? Will they fit?

I have found that the fork tubes are 38mm does anyone know how far apart they are center to center?

Why can't you measure them from center to center?

I have. But, if I'm going to have a brace made out of aluminum it has to be exact. That's why I was asking.

If you would rather take the word of someone rather than believe your ruler i guess its up to you.

Perhpas contacting z1 enterprises would be on order. Maybe they can help.

I have a very good idea how far apart they are center to center using my "ruler"!

When I draw the concept 3D drawing in AutoCAD it has to be perfect! It needs to be down to the precise MM not just a ruler guess.
I was looking for some exact info from someone who might already know.

By ruler i mean Vernier caliper but i am just joe blow. And if you can do cad then you can take a measurement.

Yes! I could take the measurements if I had the correct equipment, BUT I DON'T have it. That was the whole reason for asking fellow KZ owners if they might already know.
I wasn't trying to start a pissing contest, I was just looking for some information.

First off why are you getting pissed? If you dont want all types of answers to your question move on. Secondly you never said you CANT take a measurement infact you said you know how to do that so what am i missing here. Lastly if you have nothing nice to say please dont insut other members. I didnt insult you to start with. In fact i also said to contact Z1 enterprises since they may know THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A HELPFUL SUGGESTION. How much clearer can i be?

That was the question I asked. I have yet to get an "answer".
I have gotten suggestions to measure it, well CRAP why didn't I think of that. Of course it needs to be measured.
If I had the precise equipment to do so I would, but I don't.
So, I was asking fellow KZ owners in hopes that someone may either have this info or be able to find out. I'm not pissed. I just wasn't looking for a reply like "why don't you try and measure it" I was looking for "it is (blank) far apart, hope this helps"

Contacting them may well be a great solution, but the advice to get out my ruler to measure it will never give me the precise measurements I need.

That is actually a reasonable answer. The measurement is going to be an even MM, and you should be able to do that with a metric ruler. If I was going to measure it, I would use my 18" vernier caliper to measure the outside distance, and then subtract the diameter of one fork tube to arrive at the center to center distance, but not everyone has an 18" caliper

And like has already been said, if someone else gives you an answer, how do you know it's correct?
If it's a critical measurement, then you need to measure it yourself, or have it done by someone competent to do so.

1 mm = 0.0394 inches, a 10" (250mm) dial caliper don't cost very much, but a metric ruler is entirely accurate enough for what you want to measure, since you are only measureing to the nearest mm.

If I told you it was 198mm (and I have no idea what it actually is), would you just take that as gospel?

Like I had said before I have measured it myself, and I do have a good idea what the measurement is.
If others were to give close to the same answer I would know that I am in the right ballpark thats all.
