Fork Tube Bolt was created by shannonbeau
Anyone know what the actual size of the Lower Fork Bolt on a 82 KZ 1100 is? I stripped out the allen head on mine and would like to get one quickly instead of waiting 10 days for an OEM to come in.
OEM number 44041-040..
I think it s a M8x1 but I am not sure.

Just got an 82 KZ 1100, working to fix it up as my first bike.

Why not just remove the same bolt from the other side and take it to the hardware store for matching.

Good Luck! :)

I don't understand. You stripped the Allen head, but did you ever get the bolt out? If so, why not use it for matching? If not, how will you get it out? Ed

I got the bolt out. I'll ask the hardware store.
Should I ask them about the rest of my KZ Questions?

Yeah, OUCH... Yesterday was a really bad day. Just didn't expect the response. Would rather get a response if someone knew what the size was rather than something that sounds like what my boss would say to me.
The dealerships won't tell me the size of the bolt and they will take about 8 days to get the bolt in. I am in eastern Iowa. Not too many OEM places on hand. The bike was supposed to be done for a poker run for a charity this weekend and it looks like it won't now.
I was just asking what the size of bolt it was so that I could check that hardware store for the bolt.
I cannot find the specs on the bolt anywhere online and I have spend a ton of time looking for it. If anyone knows the answer or where I can find it. Please let me know.

P.S. Didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry if I did.

Can't help you with the length but if it´s an 8 mm bolt I'm pretty sure it's 1.25 pitch (regular/coarse metric pitch, 8x1.25).

8x1 would be fine metric pitch, as far as I know the only nuts/bolts on a KZ that are fine pitch are the lower triple tree clamp bolts, caliper mounting bolts and upper rear shock mount nuts (plus maybe the steering stem top bolt).

If it was my response that stepped on a nerve I apoligize. However, I wasn't being a wise guy. When I replaced the bolts in my KZ650 forks the new Genuine Kaw bolts (correct part number) from the dealer were about 1/4" shorter than the ones I removed (I destroyed the first one in the removal process). The new ones worked, but after my experience I thought checking using the original as the model made sense. Maybe I should have explained this in my response. Ed
