i'd say ppl are tired of answering the same question every 2 weeks lol.
from what ive read it should bolt up np with a washer on top,
i might be wrong though do you have the zx7 trees yet?
if so take a measurement and ill compare it to my kz1000 spares,

I did it but it was a while ago and I didn't write too much down. The biggest thing is having the correct tappered stem bearings. I think I used stem bearings from a suzuki. I believe I ordered from Allballs. I know AllBalls can help you find the correct bearings.

Steering stop is an issue. Other than that It's a direct bolt on, no need to switch stems on the 89 model trees.

I put the 96 zx7r forks on my kz1000 just swapped stems. As far as steering stops the bottom zx7 triple had nubs that work ok but need some attention to get right.

I have these '89 forks on my Z1. No machining involved for that - I only had to get a couple bearing shims -- the stem was thinner than stock, so added like a 1mm/2mm bearing (just a ring with ID of shaft, OD of stock stem) at top bottom. Sorry, don't have details handy. Length was already good, just a tad longer -- used the ZX7 nut but Z1 grease cap.

Steering stops were close, allowed a little bit of bump to gas tank. I put pieces of plastic tubing over them to prevent hard bump. Turning radius is greatly reduced, by the way. Parking lots involve a lot of back/forth, but no problem on the road.

As in the 1989 model, we are talking about the one with 43mm conventional style front forks.

what kind of bearings did you get?
where can i get Bearing shims?

Also, are the stems the same between your 1975 z and my 1979?

Yes, conventional 43mm forks (non-upside down???).

I got new tapered bearings, typical aftermarket replacement for the old ball bearings. Like from Z1E. I knocked the old ones out with the largest smashing devices I could lay hands on.

Bearing spacers/shims you can get from bearing supply houses - I used yellow pages in my town. Call machine shops or the like to find a source. Metric, stainless steel, with OD, ID, and depth dimensions. Like these: www.qbcbearings.com/BuyRFQ/ThrustB_Spacer_OR_SS_M.htm

But is '75 Z1 same as '79 KZ? Probably not! My experience doing mods of this sort is few can really help you unless parts are in hand, dimensions published, etc. I think the KZ steering head got beefier around '76, but honestly don't know.

Could try some measures if you want, but might take a few days to get garage time.

Ok, this was for my ZX636 conversion but the principles are the same...

My frame steering stop was broken so some fab was required and now I use the zx fork stops just fine...
