1989 ZX7R tripple tree

I made some measurements today and ralized that the stem is long enough. but it is thinner than the stock stem. so it takes smaller I.D. bearings. What are the chances of gettin some pics of your setup Elseeed?

Yes they are the same. i did the measuring this morning as well. now i need to find some Lathe access to make a shim for the bearings.

Anyways, how far are you going? This part of the racer project listed in your sig? When I started nudging things around on my bike there was a cascade effect on systems and assemblies. You going to use the ZX wheel?

I committed to the full ZX front including wheels, brakes, master cylinder on bar. Wheel diameter is smaller, changes frame geometry -- everything clears, but had to watch Kerker clearance at pavement, oil cooler to wheel. Steering radius is much tighter but fine on the road. The fork tube just bumps my tank at full stop, has scratched paint. I also committed to modern rear suspension and swingarm with ZX11 donor parts -- I'm using ZX11 wheels front/back.

I think the clip-ons were banging the tank or squashing fingers, also uncomfortable for me. So I have an aftermarket superbike bar kit. ZX7 triple meant new mounting concepts for instruments, headlight, and turn signals.

Well, im going pretty far with it. im going to use a zx6 front wheel or a zx 11. the zx6 front is alot lighter than the zx11. im using a zx9 rear wheel on a gs1100 aluminum swingarm. but the frame is totally stripped right now being prepped for bracing, which will hopefully be getting done this weekend.

Im keeping the engine mostly stock for now. just minor upgrades until i can afford a full rebuild. like manual cam chain tensioner, a light port and polish job, all new seals and gaskets, ect.

My priority is chassis performance first.

And i think i figured out that the stock 89' zx6 steering stem bearings will fit a kz1000. the top bearing is 1mm less in O.D. the bottom is the same. the widths are slightly differant but not by more than 1mm. so i ordered them from z1 enterprises.

Elseed, who made your head light ear brackets? I don't want to hi-jack this thread but just had to ask this question.

So you're going to fit ZX6 bearings into the KZ frame? I don't quite understand how you'll press the bearing into the frame - bearing spacers (like 0.5mm) to the OD? I did the opposite - got KZ bearings that fit the frame, used spacers to neck down the ID to fit the thinner ZX stem. KZ stem 30mm top/bottom I think. Frame like 52mm top/48mm bottom (or vice versa). I got some 30mm OD spacers necking down to stem diameter -- e.g. 1mm thick = 28mm or such. For the ZX7 the stem diameters change at top/bottom.

You can see steering stop here and some details. I notice I have a zip tie on top of bearing dust cup/cover. I remember having trouble getting stock Z1 part to work there.
