Why do you want to make your bike into a hardtail? You'll get better traction with correctly setup shocks. Later, Doug

I'm 27 with minor back problems since I was 22 and my L3 and L4 verterbrae have been slightly twisted for almost a year. I'm good without any more back trouble. But enough about me...

I was thinking about his rear tire unloading when he hits a frost heave or expansion joint doing 70mph on the freeway. Not a great feeling I'm sure.

Interesting that one would put mount a more modern swingarm but then offset its advantages by making it fixed. I would think that when riding on irregular surfaces the rear tire on a hardtail would tend to bounce more because of the up and down momentum of the mass of the bike (to which it is rigidly mounted) compared to one that is suspended and only has the mass of the wheel, brake, and swingarm components. I thought one object of good suspensions was to reduce unsprung weight. Ed

Yea boy, let me tell ya....I was toying with the idea of selling the ol chopper the while I was out for a ride the other day. It's road construction central around here and after the last pothole compressed the air out of my lungs I realized this is a young man's bike.

Haha... thanks guys for all your feed back, and the one who illustrated the picture of my bike was correct, the wrench is just serving as a temporary support until i get something (shocks or struts) which i have now decided to go with shocks... i got a brand new pair for 90 bucks.. so thanks again.. hoping to have pics soonn..

Really??! You guys can't deduce that the wrench is hooked on the brake stay for that swingarm and its probably only there because the wrench wasn't long enough to give the appropriate height for the builderfor the mock up? That's amazing.

The reasons for a more modern swingarm are numerous, including: wider more, modern sticky rear tire; lighter than steel; more rigid than the stock unit; this one is like two inches longer than stock for a higher launch RPM, he wanted struts for a 900--might drag race it on the weekends and maybe cruise the ice cream shop parking lots on sat night!!!

z1kzonly's struts are pretty right on and the good thing about something like that is--they are struts and not a hard tail, so they can be pulled and shocks put in when you ARE tired of them. I wouldn't suggest a 4 hr. ride or nothing, but there isn't anything better for about 11 sec. runs!

That might be about 4 cents worth.
