Fork disassembly help needed was created by Alabaster
I'm trying to replace the seals in my KZ1000. Of course, the allen head bolts are spinning. Can someone link me to the thread about the "broom handle" method or briefly let me know the specifics? Thank you in advance. This is getting very tiresome without a second set of hands. :P

if you have access to a compressor and air ratchet that normally will spin them out B)

I have an allen wrench in my electric drill. It's spinning it pretty fast. I've tried compressing the fork, I've tried pulling it. It's just spinning. What can I put on the end of extensions down the tube to stop the piston from spinning?

well, I didn't have any brooms with wooden handles, all plastic. But I did have an old pool stick with a broken tip. I squared off the end nice and smooth and shoved it down in there. Only slipping. I used ratchet tied downs to keep it in there nice and tight. Still slipping. I don't know what to do short of buying the Kawasaki tool that is designed for this job. I saw a thread where someone used a 22mm bolt head and it fit tight. Would this work on a 79 model?

try using a 17mm nut welded on to a piece of rod or all thread up here some of us call it ready rod. aand put a t handle on it so you can hold it a drill won't work for this kind of operation only a impact or use the t- handle you just built and a breaker bar.

so a 17mm is the right size for the '79 KZ1000? Thank you, I'll pick one up at the auto parts store tomorrow.

I made that tool with a bolt welded into a 1/2" pipe. I clamp it into the vise, slide the fork tube over it and spin out the bottom Allen bolt easy.

I have always used an air impact wrench. Just turn the pressure up as high as it is rated and let it spin. It may take a moment but it will work. I have rebuilt several this way and have seen several mechanics use this method. An electric drill won't spin fast enough or have the torque required. Don't waste your money on a factory tool.
