before i hang the racing leathers up i have to try that but i know what would happen i have a small obsesive compulsive disorder so i know i would go completly overboard with road racing the first time i tried it. so it will have to wait for a while till i'm done with drag racing only can have one wallet sucking vampire at a time , but god it sure do look like fun.

Yah it's definitely addictive-lots of great people too,but then all bike people are.I have a new question. The forks on the Rickman are Kawasaki, but I'm not sure what year or model.I believe the 1300cc-6 had air shocks. Are there any others? They are 38mm.Thanks Jerry

Timebomb,
For being a guy who's never road-raced you've already got it pretty well figured out.
When you said "I'm obsessive compulsive..." I thought you were going to end it with "...so I would just keep the throttle pinned until I got past the first guy and then worry about breaking, and end up in the grass" or something equally humorous...drag-racer...

that's almost what i did when i entered a pro open hill climb 2 years ago except i kept falling off[hard] so it's back to the drawing board for that type of racing i am going to do it again but i'm going to build my own from scratch i think this time. i have a 81 1000 j that i was thinking about building into a road racer but just yesterday i was given a complete factory exhaust system that is like new so i think it might be time to do a semi resto on that bike but i did pick up a frame and body work from a 1978 kZ1000 it has been some what modified the swingarm is from a gs1100 so it is a good start and the frame has all the extra mounts cut off so it won't see the street again so i figure why the hell not. let's go do some road racing . my ultimate goal is to trophy in every major form of motorcycle racing there is at least once.

Hey man, those are some pretty cool goals; much respect for that!
I think either way you go you'll be in good shape, but I'd lean towards the 'J' as the motor has more potential, but then again, if you go with a J/GPz head on your 'Z' you'd gain the bennies and have you cake and eat it too.

already have that set-up on one of my drag bikes i have an extra j and gpz head laying around gathering some dust so i'll probably do up one for my j motor and i already have a 1075 kit for it so it will be a bit of a sleeper bike. the kz motor i have alot of extra stuff lying around for it all ready and it's all smaller stuff like a mtc 1075 13-1 kit and a couple of real nasty sets of cams plus a set or two of 33 smoothbores to use on it as well so i could build a 120 horse motor pretty easy mostly from parts i have laying around my house and shop all i have to do to this bike is a bunch of plummen type frame bracing and get a front end and some shocks and i'll be in business. i have a ton of dyna stuff so that won't be a problem either.
