I don't know too much about motorcycle sprockets, but this just doesn't look right. How often do you change your chain and sprockets? When I took my rear wheel off there was probably an inch and a half of chain play, with the adjuster maxed out. I think its the original chain and sprockets with about 16,000 miles and 32 years. I'd say its about time.

Damn, I was just looking for an excuse to keep that $120 in my pocket. Looks like I need to deliver more pizza.

A good welder could fix that sprocket for you no problem. Or you can just use JB Weld. I don't see why you want to waste a perfectly good piece of metal.

Someone "forgot" to oil the chain on that one. Guys that say no need to oil take note.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Well, that sprocket in the pic is now #2 on my all-time list of "Bad Sprockets I Have Seen". The top-of-the-list sprocket had "teeth" that were about 2/3 the height of the ones in the pic. The owner of that bike said he had this strange whirring noise when he tried to pull away from a stop.....and had to paddle the bike and feather the clutch until it would finally "catch" and stop whirring.
Chupinator, you've made my day.

Not trying to take a poke at you, but truer words were never spoken if you honestly aren't sure that this sprocket is shot. Sprockets are suppose to have teeth, yours barely has gums. Take a look at a new sprocket. Sprockets should be replaced if there is noticable wear. Be sure to replace both sprockets and the chain together. Be sure to lube the new chain every few hundred miles; my prefered lube is a product called "Chain Wax." With only 16,000 miles it's obvious your chain was not maintained. I replaced mine at 36,000 miles after 25 years and the sprockets looked new compared to the one in the picture. Ed
