Replacement Seat Covers?
22 Jan 2009 11:23
Greetings to all,
As an owner of multiple KZs, I'm looking for recommendations on quality seat replacements.
The stock vinyl covers on the '80 and '82 LTDs have split.
I'm not sdverse to replacing the foam as well, so tell me who has the best seats!
Thanks to all.

JC Whitney sells covers with foam attached to drop onto pans. They also sell just the covers. I just had my seat done and I took it to an upholstery shop. Check around because one den of thieves quoted me $600 to recover it then I found a little shop with an old guy who did a perfect job for $220, and that is a very long seat with two molded sections.

I have been curious about those J. C. Whitney covers as I have a spare seat I would like to recover just in case. My current seat looks brand new with a cover I got from
www.Sudco.com
in 2003 for around $60+ which I thought was high at the time but it still looks brand new. I took it to an auto seat place who installed it for about $30, so I had a brand new seat for under a hundred. My other seat also has a few torn spots and I plan to do the same, and have considered those Whitney ones with a layer of foam. I know this is dangerous because of "slippage" but I put just a drop or two of Armour All on a rag and wipe the cover all over after I wash the bike to keep it looking sharp, and it's so thin a layer that I never slide around on it. But it does preserve that dark shiny black appearance. The trick is to buff with a completely dry rag, it will take up any excess Armour All and leave the seat nice and dark but not slick.

I bought one of the "two seat" styles to replace the one long banana seat my KZ750B4 cam with. It fit on OK, looked good, and I rode it a LONG time. Eventually, the cover got dry rotted and split along the seams but that was probably after ten or twelve years at least being parked outside during the day. I definitely got my money's worth, YMMV.I have been curious about those J. C. Whitney covers as I have a spare seat I would like to recover just in case.

I have a guy that does all of the seats for my shop, he is awesome and his prices are reasonable. He can custom make just about anything, he did a seat for one of my personal bikes that has kawi green flames on the top of he seat, and flame stitching in the backrest. Shoot me a PM if interested and I'll get you a price quote.
