7" extended swingarm project ..with pics

Well, I was bored today, and I've been stripping my1980 KZ550 down for a redo. As I was taking the swingarm off, I glanced over into the corner of my shop and saw the leftover stock swingarm from my 1000 project. So, I started thinking (bad move...lol). I figured I could use the 1000 arm as a donor, cut the ends off of the 550 arm, do some fabricating, and BAM! a custom swingarm for $0.00 other than cutting discs and welding wire. I found a piece of 1"od steel tubing that would fit perfect inside the old arms. I used that to make 2 slugs, drilled 10 holes (5 on each side) and rosette welded the slugs into the 550 arm. I then drilled 12 holes in the 1000 arms, lined everything up straight and square (as you can see in the pics, I bolted a piece of flat steel to the axle block holes to keep everything lined up), measured again, and again, and again, then tacked the 1000 arms in place. I did the rosette welds first, then ran a bead around where the arms meet. A little grinding with the flapper wheel....done for today. I still need to go back and do some "cosmetic" welds to fill in some spots. I also need to fab up some shock mounts and the braking system. I'm thinking of doing a rear disc conversion since I have all of the parts off of a GS1100 I got in trade for some work. Any comments/opinions/suggestions would be appreciated
