Very nice, Schmol. I really like that rear end setup. It seems a little high. Will that affect the gas level in the carbs? Will the bike level out when you sit on it?

Yes, it's a bit high in the rear, I'm making longer dogbones for the shock to lower it about 2-3.5" more in the rear to level it out so there isn't so much of a "rake".

I plan on leaving off the front winshield/fairing as i think it takes away from what i'm looking for. i need to find a nice 8" round headlight to mount to the front...

Follow the link to the forum file data base.
Select under documents... Order by dates for latest file insertions. I have both the front and rear ZX636 to KZ900 conversions there in pdf formats. It won;t be identical to the KZ650 but it should be close enough so you understand what your facing in your conversions.

There also a whole slew of other well written (w/images) articles there for all kinds of good information.

Also use search for Mark1122 project. Not zx636 components but had some excellent insight on issues I just didn't think about until reviewing his project.

Definitely do all your research first, then ask questions before doing anything on the bike itself. And don't forget to research what your going to do about the counter sprocket (offsets if required) to rear sprocket alignments for this alone screwed so many of us up.

Good luck and DON'T forget pictures...We love pictures! ;)

the biggest fab would be to get your stock steering stem into the ZX7's lower triple and there will some other small mods you wil have to do to accomodate the rear swingarm.

@ eddieteeth:

The rear swing arm has a lot more than you would think...

Issues such as proper swing arm alignments for centering the tire, fabricating a new pivot tube bolt inner, chain path clearances to the frame and tire, offset counter sprockets available, possible hub milling, complete modification to the electrical tray behind the plastic side covers, new rear sets or modification of the originals and the number one Pain In The Ass, the J link/mono shock mounts (top and bottom)...

Trust me and the others, yes it can be done, yes I'm glad I did the conversion and am happy with the results but by no means think it's an easy afternoon task. Do all your research, measurements, calculations before you start hacking away. If you don't have the tools (welder, grinder, metal fabrication etc...) expect this to get costly...

I am working on redoing my kz650. The only thing from the kz ive kept is the frame and fender. Everything else has been redone ( in the stages of it now.) Ive replaced the motor with a zx1000, front end is off an 2006 r6, rear ninja 636 2004, ohlins mono shock, led turn signals, gsxr1000 bars, gsxr1000 electronic fuel injection, microsquirt ECU to control injection, custom "scarface paint" electronic vapor tech gauges, and turbo running 6 pounds of boost.
