Handlebar grips? was created by Treeman
Anyone have a recommendation for a good grip. I'm considering a chrome variation.

Thanks

I tried a few over the years and they are all crap. Stay stock Kawasaki. They can still be bought.

Z1 sells a nice grip. However, in the Texas summer heat they become soft and tacky. The stock Kaw grips are hard to beat....chris3

Thanks Guys,

My stock grips do not provide any anti-vibration relief. Are you guys talking about other grips Kawasaki offers?

Thanks

I have the "Grab On" grips on mine and they are a dense foam and do dampen the high frequency vibrations. I have the "super bike" ones on mine. They last around 30,000 miles if parked inside. If your bars vibrate bad, it helps to install weights in the bar ends too.

I wanted to reduce the vibration to my hands when I first got my bike so I installed these '70's style grips:

www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=429

I have had mine for 3 seasons and they are OK but getting tired. However, at under $7.00 USD per pair one can afford to change them out any time.

How good are they? They helped me a lot, but remember that the handle bars are bolted down directly onto the upper trees without the benefit of any rubber isolation. This is different from some other bikes I've had and I can feel it.

Just wondering out loud if any members have found a safe way to isolate this vibration... other than tuning out the resonant frequency with weights/shot

Best of success. :)

PS
Treeman, would you add your year, model and location... it's considered very frienldy.

There's different problems with any grip. Soft rubber will wear quickly and turn your hand black and if ridden without gloves can cause hands to become a sweaty mess. Foam grips and other bigger diameter grips force your hand to grip something too large diameter to be comfortable. Any grip without some kind of ribs force you to have to increase grip to maintain throttle. Also any grip that does not have ribs of some kind keep any air gap between your hands and the grips at zero, so sweat away in the summer, sweat turns to slippery. So there are tradeoffs. Vibration is annoying, but less annoying to me than gripping a slippery grip or large grip, not to mention aftermarket grips are damn UGLY.

I've had issues with carpal tunnel and the vibration drove me nuts. I put these grips on the 550 and use a pair of gloves with gel pads in the palm. I've found them to be very comfortable, not to big, they don't get slimy and the groves do let a little air through.
Plus my favorite part - I got them cheap.

I've now put a pair on the 1000 and they are working great there also.

Just an observation here... if you find that you need to maintain a dead-man's-grip on the throttle all the time and that its bothering your hand/wrist you may want to try what I did.

I changed out the OEM throttle spring for one with less than half the pull (cheap generic from Canadian Tire) and I added one of those cheap friction operated throttle controls. Of course, my cables were new and well greased as well.

Now my right hand is almost as relaxed as my left. Because I don't have to hold the grips so hard I don't feel the vibration as mush too.

Anyone else install this combination or install others?

Best of success. :)
