Tire size question was created by George4
I have a 3.25H-19 front tire and am having problems finding tires in that size. Is there a metric size that will be the same size? Also what is the widest size tire I can run on the rear with out any issues? The stock rear is 130/90-16. Thanks

would a 3.25H-19 be the same size as a 100/90-19?

I would stay with stock sizes. One of the issues I have seen people run into with oversize tires is poor handling and lack of stability.

I know it would not be any fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Well what about the front tire? Is the size I listed right for the conversation to metric?

Mine also came with 3.25-19 on the front. I usually run 100-90-19 no problem. Last time they only had it in 110-90-19, so I got that... it was a shade to big. At about 55 mph I would hear a whine as the tire diameter "grew" and it rubbed on the tip of the front fender. had to raise the fender about 1/4".

So, don't go there..... stick with 100/90.

100/90/19 is what came on my bike new but we have different bikes. I've never tried to run a different size so can't tell you what that would do.

What kind of bike do you have bountyhunter? I found this guide www.motorcycleproshop.com/tires/tireinfo.asp it shows 100/90 being the same as 3.25 and 3.50. How can it be the same as 2 different sizes?

No metric (100/90) ect is the "same" as any numeric (3.25) ect size. They may be similar but not the exact same. For one thing a numeric tire is a 100% aspect ratio meaning the same height tire as width, where a metric is always less than 100%. Of course this is read in the second series of numbers, so a 100/90-19 would be a 90% aspect ratio (90% as high as it is wide). So in other words metric tires are always low profile. I don't think low profile looks right on a KZ. There are gobs of 3.25-19 tires still made, just most retailers don't seem to carry the size. I've mentioned it here a few times and will reinterate, go to Denniskirk.com, get to the tire section and search for tires, search on 3.25-19. I just did and see 9 choices in that size available.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I have a 1979 KZ-750 twin.

As to why they are the same as two different sizes: like he said, the metric equivalents are not actually identical to the standard sizes, I think they are close equivalents.

I think 100/90 is equivalent to 3.25, but it may also be close to 3.50.
