has any one succesfuly removed the ball race and or the pin bearings off the stem of a triple tree? do i need a special tool , i pritty sure i do, i tried freezing and heating but no joy, also has anyone removed one off a more moderen bike with an alloy stem and steel race? thanks out there.

No special tools required, although a hydraulic press and nearing plates makes things a lot easier.
Alloy stem, freeze it for a day then drive it off with a hammer and punch (if needed, it might slide right off).
Steel stem, drive it off with a hammer and punch, being careful to not screw up the stem, if you want to save the bearings, if you are going to replace them with new bearings, then a Dremel with a cutting wheel is easy.
I have been known to cut bearings off a spindle with a torch, but that's reserved for extreme cases
