Show Me Your Bike Stand (KZ1000 LTD) was created by Beatpoet
I am going to change the sprockets and regrease the bearings on my KZ1000 LTD.

I just realized that I can no longer just stack some blocks of wood beneath the bike like I've done with my kz400 and my TX650... The engine sticks out below the frame.

How does everyone here stand up their bike? I'm all about not spending an arm and a leg on a solution.

I'm pretty good at carpentry, however my bike doesn't have a center stand.

If you have a solid roof that you can trust to hold the weight do like I did. Total cost under 100€ and I can lift the whole bike up in the air. I bolted a ramp in the ceiling and installed a manual chain hoist. Works great and and it´s very versatile. The only downfall I found that working height is not very ergonomic. Table lift is better in that way but doing something bigger like changing whole front end my system works great.

The easiest and probably cheapest solution to your problem is to just buy a used centerstand. Stands from a 900 or 1000 std model will work. You have the tabs welded on your frame for one already. Just get a couple of large bolts to shove thru it to hold the stand on and when you are done working on the bike just take it off and lay it aside till you need it again. I've had my Fuelie sitting in my DR all winter like this.

I bought one of these small lifts at a local Guy's candy store, Princess Auto. They've got all kinds of tools etc.
$50.
There are two adjustable saddles. They raise and lower as well as go wide or narrow. Sometimes I need to use a couple small blocks of wood as well. Clears my engine and exhaust.

If you have a regular floor jack, put it under the mounts for the centerstand, jack it up, and put jack stands under the swingarm, rear footpeg mounts, or anywhere else that seems sturdy. You can also get a swingarm stand for about $100, but that's kind of expensive. I can only find a picture of the stand I have, not one of the jack stands:

I found one that looks nearly identical to that one but here south of the border:

www.motobatteries.com/p-163-scissor-lift-jack.aspx

Placed my order for $67 shipped. They also have these on eBay, but shipping is higher (to pay for eBay fees, no doubt).
