Smaller rotor? was created by Bluemeanie
In my other post about my triple tree I found out that the mounting holes for the caliper on the new forks are about 5/8 inch lower. Was pissed but started thinking, is there differant brake rotor sizes? Is there a slightly smaller one that I can bolt on and save my day?, or do I need a differant caliper? My bike is single disc. Thanks guys...

it probably needs a different caliper mounting bracket.

seems like I remember some rotor size issues, just dont remember the fix, but can you use your lowers on the new tubes?

I guess I can but these forks are in really super nice condition and I've heard horror stories about changing seals on them (broom handles, etc)

Yes, there are two different sizes for the 650s - can´t remember which models use the smaller ones off the top of my head, but I´ll look into it.

Edit: Dug around in the archives a bit, according to this thread it looks like your new forks could be off a D model (SR), appearently they use the smaller rotors. There may be other 650s that use them too, maybe someone who has the cross-reference software could check?

changing the fork seals is not that hard, I did the ones on my 1000 in half a day,

fork seals are really easy. However you need a tool not a broom handle lol. You can make this tool by welding a 19mm bolt head/nut( 3/4 inch works to) to the end of a metal rod and a handle to the other end(i just used vise grips).

Thanks Frank but just noticed that in the accident one of the fender mounting bosses got ripped off, so can't use the lower. :( So checking on differant rotor size. Thanks... John

Hi John, nice to see you are well enought to start dealing with the oddities of these bikes.

I won a couple auctions off e-bay, due to my desire to go to ventilated rotors.

Supposedly the first two rotors came off the same bike. But one of them was bigger than the other. It wouldn't fit the diameter was too big. Mounting holes were the same. But the caliper wouldn't mount.

I ended up having to hunt another ventilated rotor of the correct size, as my stock units were both the same size and smaller than the one I had gotten with the mismatched pair.

The seller swore that the rotors came off the same bike.
So maybe it's a different mounting bracket.

I have two solid rotors in good shape, and the oversized ventilated unit sitting at a machine shop. I was hoping the machinist might attempt resurfacing them for me, but I think that project kind of stalled.

Let me know if any of that might be of help to you.

Kazoo, my rotor measures 11 and 11/16" across. (single disc system) With mounting holes lower I'm assuming that dual disc's used slightly smaller rotors? I would think same caliper. What size diameter is your smaller rotor? No holes in it, huh?

Sorry it's taken so long to respond to this. It looks like my rotors are right at 11" across.
