I'd just check to be sure there isn't any burrs, etc. in the drive mount area and be sure you clean it really good. It can get gummed up in there over time. Make sure everything moves freely once you are ready to re-install everything.

After thirty years of living in an enviornment of heat and hot oil, the old inner seal seemed hard as a piece of carbon and was difficult to completely remove from inside the housing. But patiently kept picking at it, and it finally come out bit by bit, including the tiny metal spring fitted around the seal.
Good luck with the repair and enjoyment of an oil-tight tach drive.!

That tach drive is REAL hard to install with new oring seals. But it's worth it once you finally get it in. Zero leaks.
Be very careful not to cut or shave the oring during installation. Grease or oil the oring first, and be patient working it in.

i got it in and let it run for 10 minutes.......and not a drip!!!!! My first fix on the bike!!!
Oh, and the phillips screw had to be uncsrewed with vice grips. The head was stripped BAD. A guy at work gave me an allen screw and a 10mm hex screw to use for the housing. I decided to use the hex screw for I did not have a metric allen wrench. Also the caustic acid worked like a dream to rid the housing of excess rubber and cleanded it up real good!!!
Safe riding all!!!
