Stock Swingarm lengthening was created by austin3119
Is there anyone who specializes in lengthening a stock swingarm? I'm only looking for about 1.5 inches like a GS1100 arm, but want to keep the stock look of the bike with a wider rim and tire. That probably doesn't make sense, but anyway.

Thanks guys.

Hey austin3119 - If I am not mistaken wireman commented on this question a while back. You might have enough travel in the wheel by loosening the chain adjusters and sliding the axle and wheel towards the rear of the swingarm.

On my 650 there is at least 2 inches of travel on the slot where the axle slides through on the swingarm. This little stretch of the wheelbase should allow you to tuck a wider tire into the swingarm and retain the stock look. Of course you will probably need to get a chain with a couple or three extra links in it.

Thanks reborn. I appreciate the feedback. I think I could go that method if I wanted to do a 140 back there. Unfortunately, I would like to get a 160 on the stock swingarm. I really want to keep my bike looking stockish, but with a little bit of meaness. That probably doesn't make sense but...

even if it was properly done, a lengthened stock swingarm is going to be more twisty than before(londer so more leverage applied to make it bend), unless you put a brace on it(single or double clubfoot I believe) you could have one made that looks like the stocker just a touch longer and fatter that was made of stronger material that wouldnt need the "not-stock-give-away" of a brace. I think theres a pic of a bike in my "how to post pics" thread with a 160 IIRC

if you spend most of your time in a straight line its not as noticable, cornering is where the stock arms suck;) a good set of shocks definately helps

Shameless plug here...I have a GPz1100 aluminum box section swingarm with eccentric adjusters for sale (see classifieds). I think at 20" it is slightly longer than the stock swingarm and you can get a 160 in there.
