Spiffy Italian mag for KZ ???
07 Apr 2007 16:55
Have seen on a few late 60's and early 70's Honda. Most look like Guzzi wheels but not quite. DOn't know any brands. Are there any floating around for old Z1's?

A member that goes by the name of Fish knows more about the different KZ wheels that were available than anyone else I have run across. He posted a bunch of pics with info a long time ago, maybe he would be willing to do it again if asked.

Heres some pics of mags that I have come across (Most are for Honda, but the pattern looks the same)
Pic:
1) Lesters
2) Henry Abe 7 spoke (also came in 5 spoke)
3) Morris (on left) E.P.M. (on right, so Im told)
4) Shelby-Dowd (so Im told)
There are other wheels and the Itialian wheel that come to mind is Marvic. I dont have a pic of the Marvic wheel.

Morris on left, EPM on right. The EPM wheel is about 1/2 the weight of the Morris and is unmarked.

Seeing "Italian mag" Marchesini springs to mind, don“t know if they ever made anything for the KZs though.

Thanks for the photos. Are those Shelby wheels pretty common? I was looking around with Google and a Shelby biography site claimed he was the first to make Al motorcycle wheels and that they were made in the Central African Republic.

Not really. I have had 2 sets for the CB 750 in the last 6 years. In the same period, I have probably had 10 sets of Lesters and about 60 sets of the Henry Abes (I bought out a H/A wheel supplier).
Both Shelby sets I had converted the rear drum brake to disc brake and the sprocket cush drive was eliminated (solid mounted). The first set had a Hurst caliper and the second set had a Grimeca caliper. Both sets were bolt on to the stock swingarm and brake stay rod(other than the master cylinder mounting), and the Hurst caliper was underslung (pictured above) and the Grimeca caliper was forward mounted (pictured below).

Here are what I think are Shelby Dowd wheels I just bought. They came off a kz900. I'm thinking of putting them on my '75 z1.....it also has a H/A caliper and trick master cyl. assy. so I can still use the stock rear brake pedal.

Yup, they look like the Shelby-Dowd wheels. All of the Shelby mags I have had were painted on the iside of the bead area(like shown in the above pic).
Heres a set of Hayashi mags for a Honda.
