Re: Non starting Zeph11

Stuck some nice new fuel in after draining everything in sight...........as expected, nowt, not even a cough.. Took a plug from each cylinder out, closed the door and turned the light off. Yep, a spark, but reddish? The plugs where damp after trying to start it, as is, left a trace on your finger..
Didn't have any 'start yer bastard' though the phrase was used. I squirted aerosol brake cleaner at the gauze just before the airbox to carb rubbers (air filter removed).. Not a cough, took the outside plugs out, they were damp. Cranked it over with my hand over the exhaust (in case a family of rats had made a new home to get out of the rain) could feel it pulsing. Even stuck my compression tester on No.1, cold engine, wide open throttle, 150psi. I did this because the last time it ran was after I'd had the cams out to do the shims and therefore, the camchain tensioner, in case it had jumped a tooth, no real need but for 2 mins time it cost nothing.
Back to electrickery.
Took the IC Igniter off and probed the pins. I had done this before and saw some strange results but hadn't written them down.
The FSM does state that unless you use the 'Kwak' tester results may vary. I used my tester and a friends tester and the results were the same.
FSM chart
My measurements
On the 1st block of 8 pins numbers 1,2,5 and 6 gave open circuit, no reading at all.
On the second 11 to 15 gave no reading, but 15 to 11 did.
As you can see a lot of the other readings are way off. I may have misread the odd one and put the decimal point in the wrong place but this suggests to me that it's buggered. Which is a bugger because I've found 1 for sale in France for 250 € and ity's 4 1/2 hours away so can't even put the bike in my van and take it there easily.
If someone could post what any readings should be if I plugged it back in and backprobed that would be a great help.
I haven't tested the boost sensor but I can't see that stopping it starting, from what I've read it affects ig timing a bit.
Sorry for the long post but I want to give as much info as poss to allow people to pick up on any errors I have made etc.
Cheers

As a starter take a look at the below, I have transposed your results into the factory spec. Will put you a test plan together for the wiring

Thank you very much indeed. As it happens I've just found an alledged good one for 70€ + P&P but would like to continue testing mine if that's OK with you?
Thanks again for you time and knowledge so far.
Pete

Pete use the below test plan, I noticed a couple of errors on the original (I was doing it on another screen while at work yesterday

Here we go, hope it uploads OK
As noted. starter lockout values went -ve, coil feeds are a different colour to the manual and the starter button/relay doesn't always engage, will investigate tomorrow.
Thanks again Guy
(might just put that in my sig )
Didn't upload, 2nd try, camera

If you have connected as per the test plan the main ignition live (brown) should be reading battery voltage, you have 0.2v (ignition switch seems ok as coil voltages look correct) ? also the starter signal voltage is low, follow "resistance" fault info in the guide.

Sorry, yep. already did the maths before writing it, should have said 'within 0.2v'
Rechecked the starter circuit. I had a corroded starter button. Still a little low but no relay flicking now.
Also today, the 'new' box arrived. Pinned it out before I plugged it in, same results as mine, resistance wise and......no start.
Need to find someone with a Zeph11 that works to check the pinouts on their CDI, or if local, who will allow me to put mine on theirs.
Thanks so far..it continues............

I'll jump in.
I think it's just bad fuel.
Turn off the petcock.
Drain the carburetor float bowls.
Get new spark plugs.
Buy starting fluid at your auto supply store.
www.wynns.fr/produit/starting-fluid/
Do not turn on petcock---
You may have bad fuel coating your spark plugs when your petcock is on( your plugs are always damp when you pull them out)
spray starting fluid into your carbs and try to start bike
