So to use those individual pod type air filters instead of the stock airbox, I would need to rejet the carbs?

You can boil some water and soak the boots in the hot water. That'll make the boots more easier to put on

440 airboxes are not hard to find on ebay or bike yards.

I was messing around with the bike today, and spraying starting fluid in the lower intake box (I don’t have the upper box w filter element). I probably sprayed too much but while cranking, there was a pretty big fireball from the airbox. What would cause this kind of backfire?

Either getting to the spark plug.

Is this something that I should look into more?  Does this mean the spark timing is off?
