Hi Folks,
I'm getting back to finishing my trike project. You can see something about it here:

My problem is how do you wire a three wire tail/stop/turn light to do all three with only two filaments
 
I'm afraid I'll need two separate/additional lights for either my brake or my turn lights.
Am I missing something? How come I don't find four wire, three filament fixtures available?

It looks like the one pin is ground and the other two are for high/low.  No instructions?

That's right Steve but: How do you manage to shut off the brake light to allow the turn signal to display? Or don't you really need a separate light to function as a turn signal? I'm doing this on a KZ 750 Twin that had separate turn signals.

It seems to me that either:
1) There is a way to wire a two filament light to do all three functions, OR
2) There would be three filament fixtures readily available.

I would see if the intermittent pulses would override the the steady on function. I've seen them this way. If not you'll need two more.

After thinking about it a pair of relays one on each might be your answer.

Easy peasey! The lights are connected to the "common of the relay, the brake switch connected to the NC and the signals connected to the NO



 
OK ! I get it, I think! The 12 Volt source is the blue or the brown wires that previously connected to the turn signals. All I need to find is the intermittent signal from the flasher and connect it.
Do you know the part number for the relays?

They're the common ones found at auto parts stores.

Sorry I never paid any attention to the color of the wire     As an apprentice electrician, my journeyman reminded me that electricity doesn't care what color the insulation is!

And the relays are all the same. You can un plug a Bosch & plug in a Delco and it still works the same.

My Chinese top box had a circuit board that switched the spoiler lights to brake, left/right turn and split but it didn't last very long.

Ok I see it, mostly, except for the part that says "To Flasher".
Seems to me that that wire must be continuously 12 V positive until a load is applied whereupon it remains 12 V positive but becomes intermittent.
I'm planning to understand all this just before my relays arrive next week.

Try the word “from” flasher, and “from” brake switch, makes more sense.
