Hi folks.
KZ 1100 A3.
just fitted a complete Dyna ignition and coils with the Wired George mod.

Bike runs fantastic. Never seen it like that before.

However… I completely removed the old Kawasaki IC igniter, located the switched power from the four wires plugging into the IC Ignitor and used this to activate the relay.

Does anyone have any idea how I can splice the Tach back into the equation?
thanks in advance.

dave

The BLACK wire of the Tachometer has to connect to the #1-4 cylinder ignition coil that was feeded/interruped by the Dyna S signal.
(Do not connect to the Ignition 12 Volt power by the WG mod!!!)

The Dyna S uses a much longer dwell than the factory ignition.  This can interfere with electronic-tach operation.  In that case you would need an adapter circuit between the tach and the 1-4 ignition coil.

Fantastic.
I can see from your replies and the diagram that the black lead needs connected back to the coil serving 1&4.

you mention I might get some readout at lower rpm’s and that the dwell may affect this.

is there another mod other than reconnecting the black wire that helps?

thanks again for your advice!!!

...
it occurred to me that the black wire from 1 and four is basically marooned and if I were to jump between from the new 1&4 lead  to the old 1&4 which I nipped back and taped up under the tank that the tachometer might get the feed it’s looking for?
currently the Rev counter just reads zero.

there must be a splice off 1&4 that feeds the tacho right?

Yes, correct on both questions.

That black wire previously went from 1-4 coil to the original igniter.  The tach signal wire connected to that black wire.

If you connect that black wire back up to the coil in addition to keeping the DynaS wire on it, you will then be feeding a signal to the tach.

Try it. The tach should at least bounce, and may even show RPM, especially in the lower range.

Great looking Kz, by the way.

Here are some pics from the service manual. So don´t forget to check the fuses!

I know he's no longer with us, but can someone tell me what an "adapter circuit" is? ty

This box is an example.  I'm sure there are others.  It looks like most of them are around $100.

Dyna S ingnitions have a very noisy signal for a modern electronic tach (jumping needle) ! You will need a signal converter to get a clear sinus or square signal out put. I had to do this mod for my KOSO RX2N+
