Shroom,
Move the red probe to the white wire near the battery. The white wire should go to a fuse. Use the red probe to check both sides of the fuse. Leave the fuse in. Don't disconnect anything when taking the reading. Black probe is on negative battery post. Voltmeter set to the green circle. Note voltage on both sides of the fuse.

Ok so I tried the white wire. First I touched the black probe to negative battery and the red probe to the nearest point of the white wire to the battery and got 12.5 again:

Then I followed the white wire to it's next junction (pic2) and tested there and got the same reading.


Then I followed to the end of the white wire and tested again and got no reading. But I'm not sure if I'm getting a good connection spot to test it.


What are the two pieces that the white wire connects to and from?

Should I move on to checking fuses? What does that process look like? Where is the fuse box exactly?

The white wire should have 12v at all times.
If you don't have 12v then you have a break in the wire or a bad connection.
Backtrack on that white wire till you find 12v again and your fault will be there.

The white wire should have 12v all the way to the ignition switch.

Near the battery the white wire splits and one wire goes to the rectifier while the other goes to the ignition switch. Those white wires always have 12v on them unless there is a break somewhere.

There is a possibility that the fuse is bad on the white wire. It should be close to the battery. My guess is the fuse is within 12" of the battery. Check both sides of the fuse with the red meter probe with the fuse in the circuit.

This is your fuse box.
Open it up and with your meter's black probe on the negative battery post and meter set to the green circle.. Check both sides of fuse with red probe. Both sides should read 12.5 volts. If one side read 12.5 and the other is 0 then the fuse is bad. Both sides should be close to the same reading.







Answering your question as to where the white wire goes..
The white wire is split just after the battery.
One wire goes to the rectifier.
The other, which is fused, goes to your key switch.
The fused white wire supplies most of the electricity for the bike.
If that fuse is blown, then the bike is pretty much dead.
From the key switch the wire gets split again.
When the key is on, you have power on that brown wire that connects to your kill switch.
The green lines show your white wire's path. The pink box is the fuse.
