No Battery Setups
29 Apr 2020 18:54
Hello all! I am brand new so please forgive me if I shouldn’t post this here. I am working on a 1978 Kawasaki KZ200. My goal is a Cafe Racer type bike and I was told it’s possible to run without a battery. I have a kickstart and Stator but I’m not sure how it would work without a battery. Could it still run lights? The wiring harness is destroyed and I plan on buying a used one off eBay, unless you guys think it’s better to re-wire with new wires. Any advice and knowledge is appreciated! (I have multiple family members with skills to help with installation so please don’t discourage me based on my lack of knowledge for this project. I love to learn!)

Simplified wiring diagrams by loudhvx.
KZR topic >> bare bones for mattylight >> Pg 39 >> KZ200-A1 Batteryless
When making your own wiring harness, for stock type crimps, you should get an open barrel crimper. CycleTerminal.com has connectors, terminal pins & crimp tools. I already had a HF ratcheting crimper then got a set of open barrel dies >> the crimps are very strong. Z1Enterprises.com also has terminal pins & connectors, plus they also have colored wire. Not sure about Z1Ent, but the cycleterminal connectors are the same as stock.
ps: I would probably try to find a good used wiring harness but new wire would be better.

If you are serious about going minimalist with this build and the factory wiring is shot, I think making your own is the best way to go. Loudhvx's diagrams are easy to follow, and he is a really helpful member, and Martin's advice about crimpers and connectors will help you end up with a reliable, professional looking harness.

For a simplified diagram I think you're right about making it. should be pretty easy.
