The old rotor dims are appox:. 130 mm OD / 102 mm ID.. There is no Keyway on the crankshaft and profile for both parts are very similar.
I am going to return the Emgo product since I never removed from it's packaging, it is very well made, I do not believe it is the problem.. Is it possible that the pre 81 KZ 750 rotor will work? Changing out the current stator may work, but I am trying to keep the cost down and would the new rotor work with the a new Stator?.

I'd guess not on the 750, but that is just a guess.
From the Generator/Regulator diagram at Partzilla for the 1981 KZ1000-K1 Ltd.
ROTOR 21007-1036
Click the part number for the x-ref. A number of models had the same rotor, including the KZ1000P Police models thru 2001.
I would guess you could use the later Police rotors, but that's just a guess. sometimes only a minor change is done to a part.

I ordered a replacement ( Emgo product for 81-05 Flywheel Rotor, 21007-1036 ) overall dim 119mm OD / 95 mm ID. Surprise it was smaller than the original, did some measurements and it would not fit over the stator.
