These bikes did not originally come with inline filters. They usually have a screen integrated into the petcock assembly, so some purists might do without an inline filter. Adding one shouldn't hurt, as long as it's not a paper-element filter for cars (which have fuel pump pressure). Metal screens or scintered-brass elements do okay with gravity feed.

The Pingel I use has a screen I’m pretty sure. Pushes over the inlet spout inside the tank. I feel several years ago I went around and around about using an Inline filter and choosing to use one saved me some carb cleanings. They are cheap and if I do it right no one will see it ...easily.

So the quick carb clean did the trick! Last night I changed spark plugs, added a steering damper and today I got 60 miles in. Good stuff. Did not install an inline filter. Have one coming via the amazon tomorrow, I’ll keep it aside Incase I need it later. Thanks for the advice guys!

Install it as soon as you get it.

Do you have one yourself? I’m wondering (and wondered in the past) if I should try my best to have the inline filter going vertical into the center carb inlet. Or if having it horizontal in the fuel line closer to the petcock is fine.
