The dyna s does not have have electronically adjusted timing advance as the dyna 2000 does. The advance is varied mechanically same as points or the kz electronic ignition from the factory, so the dyna s requires a mechanical advance unit (which the bike should already have).

I'm not sure if the dyna 2000 gets the rotor set at full advance or idle position. The kz ignition and dyna s get their overall timing position set by the mechanical position of the timing plate. The same is likely true of the dyna 2000.

The Dyna 2000 trigger replaces the entire mechanical advancer assembly with a fixed rotor.

I recently used a timing light with engine revs around 3500, and set the timing at 40 degrees per FSM specification.

Ignition timing can also be set manually by turning the crank clockwise with a 17mm wrench (with spark plugs removed), and stopping when the Dynatek 2000 module light comes on at the correct degree mark, which is governed by position of the back-plate. The key needs to be on during this process, so I pull the headlight fuse when doing it this way.

I prefer the timing light method.
