ZN1100 ignition switch swap w/pics

My zn1100 frankenbike project needed a long obsolete ignition switch to complete the gauge cluster replacement. After searching the threads I could find, Martin CSR posted some pics of ZN switch and a couple others that looked close. Another member mentioned using the switch from a 1300 voyager that fit but was too tall. I borrowed a '93 vn750 switch that had no key or electrical parts but the body would bolt into the upper fork mount. eBay sent me a complete switch with key and helmet locks from a '94 vn750 and that is what I used for the pics. The inside of the upper fork mount will need a little clearance cut inside the pocket marked with a black sharpey. Maybe .100 or less, easy job for the Bridgeport. Maybe slot the mounting holes just a little to center the lock stem, I'll wait till I get the pocket cut out to make sure. While both connectors are the same color, they don't mate together. All the wires are there and the internal continuity checks are all ok, so a little blending will be needed. These switches are still available new, so easy to find !

The vn750 switch only needed a thin washer under one of the mounting ears to center up the lock cylinder and fit the existing pocket. So it looks like the only issue will be blending the wiring together. Pretty easy replacement for the original ZN switch.

Thanks for the update & for the how-to stuff that you had to do. I figured that some finagling would have to be done to get a non-stock switch to fit. For future reference in case someone stumbles across this topic, here are the pics that I have:
