A quick thought, the flat connectors belongs to the horn.

Open your wiring diagram and look for the colors in question. Black/yellow is a ground, and white/blue is powered. Looks like there are a couple of accessory terminals for your bike of those colors so my guess is you just found them.

The big red arrow is pointing to a covered terminal w blue-white wire, and there is a matching covered terminal next to it: what color is that wire?
Blue-white could be an accessory lead that is normally tucked away in the headlight bucket, and there should also be a matching yellow-black acc ground inside the headlight bucket as well. Notice in the wiring diagram between the headlight & speedometer that there is a pair of unused wires labeled Electrical Accessory Leads.

I don't know what the black-yellow with flag terminal is for.

A quick little revive for this thread

but I have an after market Marchal headlight for my 81 GPZ550. inside it has a second smaller bulb under the main 889 h4, not sure what it's for exactly?

but could I use the "Electric accessory Leads" to power this small bulb?

y/b would be ground? and the w/Blu would positive?

Thanks in Advance !

In the UK a "side light" is the norm. I use as a "running light" which o uk models can be switched on and off using the headlight on off switch. On uk models that switch goes from r to l, off, side light on, main light on. So has 3 positions.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

The extra/smaller bulb sounds like what's found on the European KZ750/Z750 models. shown in the wiring diagrams as a "City Light".

The following site has wiring diagrams for some of the Euro (non US) models so you can see how it gets power:
mbsween. bike-night. KZ750L3. Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.

note: some of the diagrams are mislabeled in the links: the 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4.

not too crazy about getting it turned on. but would it hurt to run it on the accessory wiring? Compared to the UK wiring diagrams the city light just seems to be wired in with the main light, which my bike (US) lacks the double female for it.

don't want to blow a fuse or anything but the 889 bulb kinda sucks, next to no vision at night. probably was thinking about switching it to an LED anyways.

The black/yellow is ground.
The white/blue is a fused accessory connection, but it is unswitched.

Since the white/blue is unswitched, the light would be on all the time unless you put a switch on it, but then anybody walking by could turn it on and kill your battery.

If you want the light to go on with the headlight, lo beam and hi beam. then tap into the blue/yellow wire at the headlight hi/lo switch. Or tap into a brown wire if you find one in the headlight bucket. Or maybe tap into the gauge lighting, which may be a red/blue or blue/red wire. Be aware the oil light is also blue/red, don't tap into that.

If you want it to go on with the lo beam only, tap into the red/yellow wire in the headlight bucket.

If you want it to go on with hi beam only, tap into the red/black wire in the headlight bucket..

okay thanks guys,
I'll probably just do an LED conversion on the main bulb. the city light probably won't add that much lighting so might not be worth the effort
