I did the re-powering ignition coil mod. by Wired George. A little confusing as I said in my other Post but got thru with Help again from the Forum members.

I did get the soldering iron too close to one the coils to solder the relay wire to it . Those small terminals have such a small hole opening, it was almost impossible to get 2 wires thru it to solder.

Anyway in the process, the soldering iron tip got to close and melted a hole in the coil casing. Appears to be plastic. Coil works fine as the wiring mod. worked as it should.

What do you guys use to patch up a hole in a coil ? I'm just trying to keep this bike running so I can budget to do a rebuild down the road.

Not that I can tell Steve. Just gouged it with soldering iron when trying to solder those little wires to the small terminal. As I said earlier, A " ROYAL PAIN " !

A dab of silicon if it isn't leaking.

Steve, I'll check tomorrow and see what it looks like in the morning. I have some Hi-Temp. Silicon here I can use.

Is there another suggestion how to attach those 2 wires at the coil terminal end rather than soldering them ? I didn't like the way they turned out especially my 1st one. Wires are not moving at the terminal but looks crude. Just want to avoid any issues down the road.

Pic? most coils have a clamp at the mount for strain relief. I had a bad regulator and cooked the coils. A black goo came out of them.

I would use Permatex liquid metal to repair the hole. After drying, it feels like plastic & it stays put. I used it to help secure & seal a couple of ring connectors to the ground wires on the front turn signals. I applied the stuff after doing some mash crimps --- I didn't have a good crimper at the time. The repair has held up well for several years.

Martin, I'll take a look at that and see if that will be a better fix . I did put a smear of Permatex gasket sealant on it this morning before a ride and appears to stay put.

I also used the stuff to seal a leaky fuel level switch on the fuel tank. The switch has a red plastic insulator & ring terminal that're riveted in place. A leak there is typical as the terminal becomes loose. That repair was done 2-3 yrs ago. no leaks.
