Hi there kz folks. Maybe someone can help me solve my mystery with a z500b3 from 81: when connecting the cable to the horn it signals constantly and makes me jump. I dont se any damaged cables or connectings all the way to the hornbutton... What could possibly be the error? Many thanx ahead. //Matt

Hello,
You should have a short black wire/pigtail that comes out of the LH handlebar control/horn/high beam switch that you can temporarily disconnect. If your horn stops blowing, then your problem is likely a short in that black wire, between the horn button and the connector or a bad horn button switch. If not, then you may have a short between that connector and the horn. Suspect a frayed wire that may be rubbing on the frame or other metal part. Please check a wiring diagram for you bike to verify the color of the horn button wire.
Good luck!

The wire from the button completes the ground to the horn.

There are two wires connected to the horn.
One wire , perhaps brown, is the hot wire that constantly furnishes battery+ voltage to the horn while the ignition switch is "ON."
The other wire is the horn's "ground" wire that grounds through the horn button when the horn button is pressed.
Might be a short in the horn button whereby the button acts like it's always being pressed.
Or there might be a short somewhere along the horn's ground wire somewhere between the horn and the horn button so that the horn is being grounded -- and toots -- the same as if it were being grounded via pressing the horn button.

Good Fortune! :)
