One note of caution when installing the Dyna coils.
On each coil, one of the primary terminals has a screw head that's very near to and sometimes may touch and short against the spacer that's used when mounting the coil.
Be sure there's space between the screw head and the spacer.
A non-metal (non-conductive) spacer can be substituted for the factory metal spacer.
Or insulation can be placed between the screw head and the spacer.
Many years ago, I used a zip-tie around the spacer as a temporary solution, which works well and has been there ever since.
Good Fortune!

Mine hang upside down and have a screw in connection. See the pic and there is a spacer.

+1 on the Dayna coils. I had some old factory coils on my KZ1000 and reciently upgraded to the dayna coils I noticed a very real change. My bike is heavly built but just giving my experience with upgrading coils.

Stock Kaw coils are good. hell, guys were putting them on other bikes in the day. If you're going to put money in a engine, new cois are a must. Might as well be better ones than stock.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's what I've been using for a little over a year on one of my Kz550's. My buddy has two seasons on the those coils on his Kz550.
He and I split a box of wires for a V-8. It was just a universal kit. One kit gave us enough for 4 bikes.
FYI, I think the stock wires were 7mm, but these coils use 8mm wires. The rubber grommets are really tight but there is a trick to get them on the wires. You get a shaft that it slightly over 8mm in diameter. We used a bolt that we cut off smooth. Mount the shaft into a vice, and slide the grommet onto the shaft using a very tiny bit of the supplied dielectric grease. Then press the end of the wire up against the shaft and transfer the grommet onto the wire.

I was looking at those but was not sure if they were cheap knockoffs because they have no MFG name to them. But you say the work. Might have to give them a try.
Found these on same site: EMGO's
Also, what kind of terminals are needed to attach to the coil itself?

I'd rather pay for a known good brand than chance being stranded by a cheap knock off.

Since the factory coils can last 30 to 40 years, the no-name knockoffs are a risk. I'll let you know in 2046 if they lasted or not.
Is it possible to even get brand-new, original TEC coils? I don't know if any vehicles use ignitions like what we have anymore, so we would likely have to get aftermarket coils, and the Dynas are pricey. Maybe Kawasaki is still selling old-school bikes in Malaysia or somewhere. Maybe they have a supply of the old coils.
I'm going to start designing an ignition adapter so we can use some small car coils, but it will be some time before it's done. That way, if it fails, you just need to go to the nearest Autozone.

Re: Coil Upgrade?

This leads me to another question. My bike is 33 years old but with only 5000 miles. Probably sat for a while. I am all about preventative maintenance but should I upgrade out of caution or for a better spark?

They are good coils. If they work spend the money on other things.
