1982 KZ1100 shaft headlight not working
20 Jun 2016 19:06
I'm sorry if this subject has been covered before, but I've been searching all over the web for 2 days with no results...
I just got an extremely clean original KZ1100 shaft for a steal. The guy couldn't get it to crank and I found that the ignition cylinder was jammed in the fork lock position. It would turn enough to light the gauges, but not all the way to "run". I fixed that by cutting off the fork lock tab on the frame neck and dismantling the ignition down to the base. Now it fires up and runs perfect
.
The problem I have is everything works (turn signals, brake lights, gauge lights and horn), but the headlight doesn't in either position. There is no power at the plug, I tried bypassing the RLU (I think I did it right. Blue to blue/yellow wires in the 6 pin plug) and nothing. There is one burnt fuse space in the block (2nd from the right). Could this be the headlight circuit? If so, which wires go to that specific slot so I can cut and splice in an inline blade type fuse holder?

This is the fuse block. The melted tab is on the brake side of the bike.

Looks like you need to replace the whole thing.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's one with a pic of the wiring in back.

That was my thought also. I was considering just ditching the box entirely and using the inline blade fuse holders as an upgrade.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOn the page there is a fusible link block too. You might have more than one problem.

Ya, that looks like what is mounted next to the fuse block. From all appearances, it looks good (at least from my automotive mechanic standpoint). Nothing looks burnt through like I would assume a fuseable link to do...

Found my 1100A sixteen years ago and stripped the Vetter package off within a month. Thus began my short-term transformation which I thought finished several years ago...and each year since.
Its an addiction, u know. With ebay there is no end to the fix. Feed it! :woohoo:
