Front Signal lights
04 Jun 2016 05:33
I have a 1977 KZ650C1 and I am wondering if my front signal lights should work as marker lights as well (on all the time). They work fine as signal lights but I have seen other vintage bikes where their signal lights are on all the time. Thanks for responding!

From the wiring diagram at the KZ650.Info site the 650-C1 should have front running lights (USA models).

I can't find a wiring diagram for the C1 specifically and it's not clear what part of the world you are located in so cannot say if you have a Euro or North American version... It seems European models didn't have the running light function, where N.American models do.
Also, it may be possible that your turn signals were replaced at some point with units that do or do not have this functionality.
However, it would be easiest for you to determine whether or not you have the running light function by looking at the wires coming out of the turn signal stalks in front to see if you have 2 or 3 wires.
2 is turn signal only.
3 is running lights and turn signals.
The light bulbs that fit the turn signals are different to support a a running light and brighter turn signal flash (dual element) or just turn signal (single element).
The rear turn signals are single element for comparison of bulbs.
This suggests that either you have turn signal only OR you coincidentally have two blown bulbs in front OR the running light wires for the front turn signal stems have not been connected.

I own a 1977 KZ650-C1 also; I'm the original owner. Yes, the front turn signal fixtures also serve as running lights. These only come on when you turn the headlight switch on. Each bulb should have 2 filaments. If yours don't work like this someone has installed the wrong bulbs or fiddled with the wiring. The rear turn signals do not have running light capability; they serve only as turn signals. Ed

I my be wrong, but from ads I've seen (images below) I don't think they were called KZ650-C1 in Europe or Japan. I'm pretty sure they did not have the "K" in the model numbers, so they would have been marketed as Z650-C1. If I'm wrong please correct me as there may have been some countries in Europe that used the "K". Ed

I'm in Canada. I will have to check the wiring to see if it a bulb or wiring that needs sorting out. The Canadian models don't have on off switches for the headlight, it's on all the time.
